Why Use Us?
- We guarantee that design and installation quotes will be accurate and complete with no nasty surprises.
- We guarantee the work.
- We've been doing this stuff for over 23 years. We know what we're doing.
You definitely get what you pay for. Sometimes we're a little more expensive than the unlicensed fly by night guys that do landscaping after they get out of their real job, but we're worth it! Those other guys work hard but they're often figuring it out as they go - and they'll usually take weeks to finish a project that should take days. Most of those guys don't have warranties (they might say they do but good luck contacting them when there's a problem in six months) and frankly, I'd be nervous handing them a big deposit check. It's also illegal for a non-licensed person or company to do a job over $1000. Maybe the worst thing is it often ends up being more expensive because they have endless additional costs that weren't included. Our way of looking at it is: if you would use a dentist who isn't licensed, and hasn't done this kind of work before instead of an experienced, licensed, professional to save a few bucks, then we wish you well - but we recommend you go with an experienced, licensed contractor (even if you don't choose us)
New Citrus Pest
There is a new pest killing citrus trees. The Asian Citrus Psyllid has killed off 90% of Florida's orange crop and is now common in Arizona. The disease they carry (Citrus Greening Disease) cannot be cured so once the tree is infected, it will need to be removed.
Bush Stumping
It's just about cool enough for bush stumping (rejuvenation pruning). This is where we cut the shrub very aggressively so it's about 2 feet tall. It is recommended for bushes that are partially dead, or ugly and woody, or are just too large. Sages in particular often get too big as they grow from the inside too, so no matter how much we trim, they still get bigger.
Mid Month - August
It's STILL too hot for plants (or humans) to thrive. Sadly, yet again we haven't seen any significant monsoon action which would have lowered the temperatures a bit and increased moisture in the air and soil. Heat stress is a combination of dehydration and high core temperature so everyone should expect some plants to struggle or die in this relentless unprecedented heat - regardless of the amount of water they're getting. The cumulative stress caused by crazy-high temperatures day after day is deadly. And don't forget, the more heat stressed the plant or tree, the more susceptible to insect attack (contact us for a quote to prevent or treat for insects).
That said, we've been continuing to increase the amount of water at houses for which we're able to adjust the timeclock. Feel free to also increase it yourself if you'd like. Unfortunately your water bill will have gone up some. Please consider contacting our office about converting to low water use plants or removing grass areas. Fall is coming up and that will be a great time for changes to your landscaping.
If you have cactus or succulents that are not on drip irrigation, we recommend you hand water them every 2 weeks during summer. Normally this is not required as the monsoon rain and humidity are enough, but it appears our new climate in Arizona means we shouldn't count on monsoons any more.
Unfortunately, during the heat of summer, it's common for plants and trees to die. In most cases they die very quickly, and often their decline cannot be stopped.
-The summer heat stresses plants and exacerbates any existing weakness. Just as a person or animal can get heat stroke and die even if they are hydrated, plants also struggle from excessive heat even if they receive adequate irrigation.
-Reasons for decline include; the plant's age (everything gets older and weaker and many plants have a short natural lifespan), pests and disease, the type of plant and it's location. past environmental factors, fertilizing, water, temperature, and just plain luck. In recent years we've seen more diseases on all kinds of palms, ash, citrus, and tipu trees, as well as several types of shrub such as oleanders and orange jubilees.
-Preventative actions we recommend include: Apply our systemic pesticide to all trees & shrubs. Fertilize (twice per year for most plants, more often for citrus and queen palms). Replace all drip heads at least every 2 years. It's important to replace heads before they completely clog up with calcium or the first visible issue will be a dead plant. A drip head replacement also includes making sure each plant has the correct number and size of heads. Obviously if there is a problem with the drip system such as a bad valve or timer, or if the line is too old and brittle = that will need to be replaced promptly or plants will certainly die.
How Our Pricing Compares to Others
Whenever we have had the chance to compare our pricing against our competitors’, we’ve found our prices to be pretty similar on average.
There are usually some companies that are priced higher, and sometimes there are others who are a bit lower.
Lately there are a few online services that match you with a landscaper. Please be careful, many of those quotes are to ONLY mow the lawn. If you want bushes trimmed, leaves blown and picked up, weeds cut and sprayed, irrigation checked, etc., those are all additional cost. And they put the hard sale on you to commit to the much higher price.
However, most of the competitors who are priced lower than us tend to be unlicensed, fly-by-night people. We call them “Saturday Guys” because they are the guys you see in your neighborhood on Saturdays and evenings. They’re doing side work after they finish their day job with a real landscaper.
Honestly if all you need is a simple one-time clean up, they will probably do a great job.
BUT, if you are looking for ongoing service, they are just not set up to show up consistently or when they say. If they get a flat tire, or a blower goes down, or someone has a dentist appointment, they will not be coming. And probably won’t let you know either.
Also, if there is a problem, or something additional needs to be done (irrigation problems, pest issues, trees, etc.), they often don’t have the knowledge to diagnose it or do it correctly.
They don’t have the insurance needed for your protection. If someone gets hurt on your property, it’ll be your problem. It would be especially scary to have them do tree work – they won’t be insured, and your homeowner’s insurance usually won’t cover damage caused by uninsured contractors.
Landscape designs and installations done by Saturday Guys may be the scariest of all. A 50% deposit is customary – and giving a large amount of money to some unlicensed guy, hoping he will show up to do the work, is very brave. On top of that, they often don’t have the knowledge and skills to do the job correctly. They may have been on a team doing similar work once or twice, but that does not make them experts. Using a licensed, bonded, insured contractor (like us) guarantees we will not take your money and run, and ensures we will do the job in a workmanlike manner.
AND, even if they give you a quote that is lower than ours, they will almost always add unanticipated items to the price as they go. The end price usually ends up the same or higher than ours. We guarantee there will not be any surprise additions to our price (unless you change things). We have been doing this for almost 25 years – there aren’t any surprises for us.
Finally, their guarantees are meaningless. Whether the problem is a broken window (usually close to $1000), the drip system they installed isn’t working, or the plants they installed all died. If you need them to come back, they often just stop answering their phone. They do not have an office. They do not have a website. They are not licensed contractors. They probably don’t have a registered company. So, their great warranty just doesn’t exist.
So. Our prices are very competitive. And when you chose us, you’ll also get access to a great deal of experience and knowledge, trustworthy, English-speaking employees, a guarantee to show up on the day we say, a satisfaction guarantee, and an accurate installation quote guarantee. All backed up by being licensed, bonded, and insured contractors.
Drip System
If you've had 3-4 underground leaks in your drip system, it's probably time to have it replaced. Leaks are usually caused by the underground line getting brittle from age, then cracking. Eventually it gets so bad that as soon as one leak is fixed, another pops up - so your water is being wasted and not getting to the plants. Drip systems last a while - about 10-20 years - but they're not immortal.
Its Just About Cool Enough For Bush Stumping (rejuvenation pruning).

Now is the perfect time to get started with Landscape Design and Installation Projects. Be sure to choose a licensed, bonded, insured landscaping contractor so you can trust their work.
